I have had Sumo for over a year now and have had no problems other than one phone issue and they were able to fix it the same day. The email billing isn't an issue for me either and I'm very happy with the speeds and no hassle.
I am an IT Sys admin who is super picky about my internet service provider (ISP). I spent time researching on the web and over the phone Infowest, sumo, veracity, brigham and to some extent the others on the network. Sumo stood out as the ISP that wants to be an ISP because they focus on doing colocation with Netflix servers and gaming companies. I hoped that their uptime would be better than Veracity. Luckily, I was right, I've had 2 outages in the last 18 months and both of them lasted less than 60 seconds before failing over and getting a new IP address. I highly recommend SUMO to everyone in my neighborhood.
As for the comment about billing with L. HILLS, I have several times switched credit cards or signed up for new service after moving and missed the email about payment. Every time that has happened, even after 30 days overdue, I have never had a 'late fee' added to my account. They just want to be fairly paid for their service. If you can't be bothered to read an email with subject "Your payment for invoice XXXXX is overdue - SUMO fiber" (like I had this morning), then you might be right that using electronic billing is not for you. Otherwise, you do like I just did and get your account current and check the box that says 'Use this card for future payments' and now I won't have to worry until my card expires sometime in the next few years.
From my experience Sumofiber is the best service provider through Utopia. I know several other Utopia Customers who have switched to Sumofiber from other providers due to rate increases and speed issues. They love Sumofiber and have not had any issues since changing over to Sumo. My speeds are constant and at what they advertise for the plan I'm on. My internet is FAST and I have no problems with streaming from multiple devices and/or gaming at the same time. They're employees are very professional and great to work with. I recommend Sumofiber over all the other Utopia service providers.
From what I can tell, Sumofiber has the best perks of all the Utopia providers. Some of the others charge for a static IP, and I don't think any of the others have ESPN3. Honestly all of them offer pretty good deals and awesome speeds, but I think Sumofiber has the best perks included with their service.
I have had Sumo as my service provider this past year and have had several issues
with their billing services.
I would strongly urge you to consider if they are good fit as your provider as they refuse to revamp their billing practice even though over 6 mos ago they told me they recognized the issue and were working on a resolution. Nothing has been done yet as they just shut my service down again after I paid the current statement in full. When I called to inquire why my service was not working they told me that I had an outstanding balance even though it did not reflect any past due amount on my current statement.
If you are a young technical person that checks their email accounts constantly, you do not get bombarded with massive amounts of junk mail daily, and you are willing to go in to verify invoices all of the time you may not have a problem. The fact that they cannot seem to bill their customers as every other utility and service provider I have ever worked with makes no sense to me.
If you have a balance due should that not reflect in your statement instead of thinking you are current as you paid your current invoice in full, only to have your service suspended when you log into your computer for work. Oh and they love to tell you it is your fault and charge you a $15 reconnect fee each time they do this. Great add on sale for them.
NETFLIX and HULU streaming is awesome with SUMO. HD quality and no buffering ever!
We had an issue with our voice adapter and SUMO came out the next day and replaced it and it has worked great.
We switched to Sumo about a year ago after our old provider, which shall remain nameless, jacked up our prices out of the blue. At first I was hesitant to switch to SumoFiber because I thought it was too good to be true. The price seemed way too low for the advertised speed. I decided to give them a shot and I have not been disappointed! Our speed is 4x faster than we were getting before and we're paying $12 less per month! On top of that, with our old provider we would have outages about once a month, but with SumoFiber we have not had a single problem yet. Make the switch!
Fastest internet and I really enjoy ESPN3.
Veracity doubled my rates so I switched to SUMO. Happy customer!
