West Valley City

As Utah’s second largest city, West Valley City is home to over 130,000 residents. Given the wide range of affordable housing options available in West Valley, the City attracts young families as evidenced by our relatively young median age of 28.8 and our 3.5 person average household size that is nearly 20% larger than that found in Salt Lake County overall. We have the most ethnically diverse populace in all of Utah with numerous cultures and backgrounds represented.

West Valley is also home to a diverse mix of over 4,500 businesses. These businesses employ nearly 65,000 people and range from small “mom and pop” operations to major national corporations. Some of our strongest industries include finance, transportation and manufacturing with businesses like Zions Bank, C.R. England and Hexcel. West Valley businesses benefit from our central location in the Salt Lake Valley where we’re just 12 minutes from a major airport, 10 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City and 15 minutes from the University of Utah.

The expanding UTOPIA network will provide numerous benefits to West Valley residents and public private organizations. The City’s growing population and businesses will have access to the fastest internet connection available and freedom to choose their telecommunications provider, which means greater competition. Fiber optics will allow the City, Granite School District and Granger Hunter Improvement District to enhance the security of public facilities through remote surveillance. This infrastructure will also significantly improve communications between public safety facilities and personnel, facilitate the connection and coordination of traffic signals for better traffic flow and provide the opportunity for Wi-Fi hotspots.
